Frequently Asked Questions

The homeowner is responsible for maintaining driveway culverts including removing debris and sediment (soil and leaves) in and around the culvert. The homeowner is also responsible for replacing a rusted out or collapsed driveway culvert.

We strongly recommend double wall plastic culverts when putting in a new driveway culvert or a replacement.
As a general rule, plowing will occur when when the snow depth is over 6” at the s-curve above Poplar Forest Road.

The decision to plow is based upon the amount of snow and forecasted temperatures. Plowing is expensive, so the decision to plow is made by the Association’s Executive Committee. See Winter Roads Plan.

No. Fairview Forest does not allow salting of roads or pathways.

Salt causes enormous ecological damage and also contaminates well-water drinking supplies. Remember, road salt is made of poisonous industrial salt compounds, and should not be confused with table salt.

Yes, we strongly encourage you to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle for winter driving on our roads.

Snow tires are also strongly encouraged. New rubber compounds used in snow tires provide good traction in winter conditions where ice and snow are present.
Please contact the Road Steward for that particular road. Road Stewards are listed near the bottom of this page.
These are available for a small fee at the local fire department in Fairview or Reynolds.

We encourage all residents to install one of these signs at your driveway’s entrance to help emergency services (and deliveries) find your house.
The Roads Committee can provide a list of contractors who are known to provide asphalt paving services in Fairview Forest. However, we cannot recommend specific contractors.
